Mission

Art Conservation Northwest (ACNW) provides museum-quality conservation services to the Portland metro area and the greater Pacific Northwest region. Individual consultations are offered to determine preservation strategies that address the unique needs of each client and artwork. Conservation treatments are carefully designed to safely preserve the original materials of the artwork and only reversible, conservation-grade media are used to complete any restoration. Here at ACNW, we use complete written and photo-documentation to record all treatment steps carried out with discreet care and in adherence to the American Institute of Conservation's Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Practice

What can I expect as a new client?

An initial consultation will include a general assessment of the artwork, discussion of the your conservation goals, and an overview of what services ACNW can offer.  If you decide to go forward with ACNW, the artwork will undergo a thorough examination to assess its condition and you will receive a comprehensive treatment proposal.  Treatment options can vary greatly.  Minor treatments can take as little as a few days, but more involved treatments can take months.  Conservation treatments, in general, may include consolidation of unstable paint, structural repair of the canvas or painting support, the removal of surface grime, old restoration, and/or discolored varnish, and the reintegration of paint loss and damages.  No treatment is ever performed without a clear understanding of the proposed course of treatment and signed consent from the owner.  Upon completion, a report will be provided detailing the process in full.  Photo documentation is performed for each treatment.
